Rob Fisher, Esq. Partner at Nixon Peabody LLP, is a Chambers USA–ranked trial lawyer and former Assistant U.S. Attorney with over 25 years of experience representing clients in government investigations and white collar matters. He represented MIT Professor Gang Chen and secured a rare pretrial dismissal of all charges, a landmark case that helped lead to the termination of the U.S. government’s China Initiative, and has since represented over two dozen world-renowned professors and researchers in related investigations.

Justin Sadowsky, Esq. Legal Director at the Chinese American Legal Defense Alliance (CALDA), is a civil rights litigator with nearly 20 years of experience advancing constitutional protections in U.S. federal courts. He leads CALDA’s legal strategies challenging racial discrimination, protecting immigrant rights, and defending civil liberties in support of Chinese American communities.

John Sandweg, Esq. Partner at Nixon Peabody LLP, where he leads the firm’s Cross-Border Risks team within the Government Investigations & White-Collar Defense practice. His work centers on national security, immigration, and DHS compliance matters, along with international criminal matters and compliance reviews for clients in the US and abroad. Before entering private practice, John served as Acting Director of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), overseeing roughly 20,000 employees worldwide, and as Acting General Counsel of the Department of Homeland Security, where he was the department’s chief legal officer. He is a frequent commentator on immigration and border enforcement issues for outlets including CNN, NPR, and PBS. John is recognized in The Best Lawyers in America for Immigration Law and recommended by The Legal 500. He holds his B.A. and J.D. from Arizona State University.

Brian Sun, Esq. Partner at Norton Rose Fulbright, is a trial lawyer based in Los Angeles whose practice focuses on white-collar criminal defense and high-profile government investigations. He is best known for his work defending Dr. Wen Ho Lee, the nuclear scientist wrongly accused of espionage, where he led the civil suit charging the Department of Energy with invasion of privacy, a case that ultimately settled for over $1.6 million.

Clay Zhu, Esq. President of CALDA has practiced law in the United States for over 25 years, with extensive experience in civil rights advocacy and cross-border litigation. He serves as President of CALDA’s Board and has been a leading voice on issues affecting Chinese American communities, including his role as lead counsel in the landmark 2020 lawsuit that successfully halted the federal WeChat ban.

Kusakawa was instrumental in spearheading the coalition work to end the U.S. Department of Justice’s China Initiative and previously served as Founding Director & Supervising Attorney of the Anti-Profiling, Civil Rights, & National Security program at Asian Americans Advancing Justice (AAJC).
