Today’s youth are our future
AASF is launching our Youth Initiative to teach our histories and the contributions of Asian American innovators and empower the next generation to thrive knowing their American history.
High school competition
The “Youth Ambassador for Science” competition invites high schoolers to create and share short videos highlighting Asian American science pioneers, for a chance to win a $1,000 VISA gift card. For more information about the competition, please see the website and official rules available here.
The CAP Project
AASF is proud to launch our Community Action Project (CAP) with the Conference on Asian Pacific American Leadership (CAPAL). Students will work on a project interviewing and learning about the history of Asian American pioneers and innovators. Their project will go on to be a pilot that students from across the country can replicate.
Asian Americans have faced a long history of being perceived as “perpetual foreigners” in our own home. This dangerous stereotype has been used to scapegoat Asian Americans as “threats” to national security, especially in times of heightened international tensions, and Asian American scholars have been racially profiled and targeted as a result. At the same time, their tremendous contributions to scientific innovations are often invisible and overlooked.
Through storytelling and education, our CAP project will work to change this narrative and celebrate the contributions of Asian American innovators.
