The Asian American Scholar Forum (AASF) congratulates our Executive Director, Gisela Perez Kusakawa, Esq., on her swearing-in as President of the Filipino American Lawyers Association of Washington, DC (FALA DC) at the U.S. District Court of the District of Columbia. Kusakawa has been with FALA DC since its inception, serving through different volunteer and board positions over many years to serve her community. A founding member of FALA DC, Kusakawa has long championed the rights of Asian American communities through legal advocacy, coalition building, and public service.
FALA DC is an advocacy and professional development organization that unites Filipino American attorneys, judges, and law students across the greater D.C. metropolitan area. The organization’s mission is to foster legal excellence, mentorship, and cultural pride while addressing critical issues impacting the Filipino American community.
Kusakawa’s leadership at AASF has been instrumental in advancing civil rights, protecting scholars, and ensuring Asian American voices are heard in national conversations on civil rights, science and technology, higher education, and public policy. Her new role at FALA DC reflects her unwavering commitment to public service and justice across sectors.
